Portrait photography for musicians

The importance of image as a performer

As a musician and performer, your image and how you portray yourself is quintessential. Therefore, ensuring you have high quality images (performing or posed) on your business card or website is a priority! A classy and sharp image can and does make a difference. It will pay for itself in no time.

I have photographed a number of Leeds College of Music alumni (while they were students) and staff both at live gigs in venues like the Wardrobe over the years. I have also taken photographs for promotional shoots. You can see a number of them in this gallery. These images have been used on their websites, in newspapers, magazines and for promotional material etc.

Soloists and bands

I cover soloists, bands and any genre. I will discuss your requirements and any ideas you might have. If you do not have any I always have a few.

Live shots in a studio environment

Some of the best musician photographs are those taken during a performance. In most cases, I can reproduce that look in the studio, but the photos will be sharp with nothing messing up the background. I do not know of anyone else who is doing this. It is very popular look with my clients.

Styles

I can reproduce a number of styles including a Classic Hollywood look, retro, contemporary, hi and low key, glamourous, formal, casual, artistic, moody or fun etc. Even a live performance look, but shot in the studio so we have more control over the final image. Check out my blog for more ideas.

A studio or location

Photo shoots can be in a studio or on location. You can split the hour between two (and not more) people thus halving the costs. Reasonable expenses may be charged for location work.

You can arrange an all inclusive package prior to the shoot or gig.

You will be required to sign a standard model release form prior to the shoot.

Student Discount available

Instead of £60 for the session fee, only £50 is charged. See full pricing details here.

Testimony

This is what Jack Wildsmith had to say about a shoot at the end of 2013,

"I had a musicians shoot with Hubert Hung. Hubert was really easy to get along with and his communication before the shoot was exceptional and very professional. His experience of working with musicians was very apparent throughout the shoot as we talked in length about music and our influences musically.

The shoot was very relaxed and he allowed me to play freely and express myself. I also ended up with some wonderful photographs. They were done with a professional quality and were exactly what I asked for and wanted. I have just booked in for another shoot and I am in no doubt that the same high standards will be adhered to."

Thank you, Jack!

Rebecca Frodsham said this about a shoot in October 2014,

'Hubert Hung is a fantastic photographer who can capture you in an individualistic way. I was so pleased with the photographs he produced and I had a marvellous time on the photo shoot.'

Thank you, Becky!
